Big guys are a dime a dozen, tough guys almost as common, a guy who can rise up and knock you out when he should be unconscious on the mat can be a champion.
Within the power lifting game there is a thing that is called the Swartz system. This is a formula that actually gives weight away to the heavier lifters due to the fact that the lighter lifters always lift more weight pound for pound than the heavier lifters. When a sanctioned lifting event is attempting to find the (best lifter) of the meet this swartz system is utilized. The fact is , for what ever reason, the heavier you are the less you will be able to lift pound for pound compared with the lighter lifters. That is just the way it is. So , keep that in mind when you are watching the different weight classes compete. Every now and then there will be a heavy weight that will come along that will be able to actually compete heads up with the lighter lifters pound for pound. Keep in mind that a heavy weight anomaly such as this only comes along every blue moon. How can you separate all the pretending heavy weights from the real deals? One sure way is to see how much these heavy weights can squat.. If a 300 pounder can squat around 1000 pounds then there is no question that you are looking at one of those real deals. Lesner , it seems might just be one of these genetic anomalies. and it might be that Carwin might be one as well. Dont be fooled into the mindset that big rippling muscles automatically means overwhelming strength. There is a big difference between being genetically strong and developing one's strength through training. Of course when someone combines the two that is when a true Freak evolves. It is my contention that as the mma fight game evolves it will be these individuals who will come to dominate their weight classes. More and more the martial arts technicians are being beat by the strength freaks that are taught the techniques. That is exactly why more and more wrestlers are coming to dominate.
